Here’s what I shared with Inc. Magazine about leadership
It all boils down to holding onto your authenticity amidst the chaos.
As a leader, there are moments that define you. One of those moments is when you ask yourself the extremely uncomfortable question.
What needs to change, within me to see the change in who and what I lead?
Anything that is within a leaders responsibility to shepherd (people, process, profits) will not change until the internal change happens within the leader.
When the leader changes the company and employees follow.
But, if we are honest with ourselves this change is challenging and many times we miss the signs around us that are pleading for us to stop trying to achieve career success how we believe it should happen.
And, sometimes that pleading could be to save our lives.
My sign came as a screeching halt the day my corporate executive position landed me in the Emergency Room.
I was loaded onto a stretcher, placed in an ambulance and rushed to the hospital.
Why?
This happened for several reasons and I go into detail in the November issue of Inc. Magazine
on newsstands now.
To jumpstart you into this conversation I’ll share with you two of the reasons. The first being I didn’t listen to the signs to stop and seek a different way to reach success in my career and the second was allowing a toxic work environment to silence my ability to communicate.
And there’s more…
Pick up November issue of Inc. Magazine on newsstands and at Barnes & Noble, Inc. to read the interview along with the watch items and risk I share for what leaders can look for within themselves and their teams. Thank you to Diana Ransom and the editorial team for the honor to share my story to help others leaders to lean and ask themselves this question.
